Why Is Baseball America's Sport?

Why is baseball America's sport? It is a great sport whether you are playing for fun with friends or family or if you are a professional playing in the big leagues. Below I will share some trivia that you might have some fun with.

Even though we might be aware of current World Series winners, you might not be aware that the first such competition was held in 1903 between Pittsburgh and Boston and was won by Boston. In 1933 the first All-Star game was held and since then we have enjoyed this annual competition with the top stars participating in the game.

Mickey Mantle certainly is a familiar name with anyone who follows the game of baseball. He holds the record for the most career home runs. He played for the New York Yankees and was one of the team members responsible for the Yankees domination during the years he played.

Pete Rose holds the record for hits and games played; however when Pete Rose managed he was involved with betting and has now been banned from baseball because of his betting habits. He was known as "Mr. Hustle" because of his aggressive way he approached the game.

Some funny facts are the baseball has a serious short lifespan. In the major league games the baseball is only used once. Although only used this one time, it certainly is not because it is not made of quality materials. It is made from quality leather and represents one of the most common objects fans want their heroes to autograph for them.

A few other funny facts are that the tallest baseball player in major league history is Jon Rauch, who is six feet, eleven inches tall. He used to play for the Minnesota Twins as a pitcher. Another funny fact was the famous Babe Ruth's odd habit of placing a cabbage leaf under his hat just before every game.
